Importance of Car Maintenance and Repair

auto363 » 22 August 2009 » In Auto Repair » No Comments

It is often frustrating to encounter any form of car trouble, particularly if you are in a hurry or are far from an auto shop. These types of incidents can be avoided if you are able to regularly have your car checked. Regular car maintenance and repair can help prevent the possibility of you being stuck in these situations. Maintenance of your car can range from basic car maintenance to an overhaul or car check-up.

Importance of basic car maintenance

There are several car maintenance measures that you have to do to keep your car at its best. It is important to bring your car to an auto service and have it checked.

Have your engine checked regularly. Remember that the engine is the heart of your car; with a busted engine, your car is useless. Having your engine checked regularly will ensure that it is working properly and it is up to speed. Also, it is important to check your car transmission, otherwise you might be stuck in one of the main highways of Tampa under the heat of the sun.

Checking the brakes should also be part of your basic car maintenance. It is highly suggested that you seek the assistance of a good mechanic to have your brakes checked. Remember that maintenance of your brakes is important for safety reasons. Low brake fluid levels can cause soft brake pedals.

At the same time, dirty brake pads can cause the brakes to squeak. Having your brakes checked regularly by a mechanic can prevent these from happening and ultimately reduce the risks of accidents caused by brake malfunction.

In Tampa, auto AC is as important as air conditioning in your home. A functioning auto AC provides daily comfort from the heat outside. If your auto AC emits undesirable cooling then it is time to bring your car to an auto service and have it checked. AC repair can range from a simple cleaning of a dirty condenser to a mechanical procedure.

It is important that you take care of any minor concerns as soon as you recognize them to avoid any serious problems and an expensive car repair procedure in the future.

Importance of regular mechanical inspection

To maintain safety and reduce the cost of car repair, it is important that you have your car inspected regularly. Regular mechanical inspection should be done and not just a visual inspection of your automotive, since many components of your car cannot be inspected visually.

It is vital that you seek assistance from a good mechanic and subject your car to a diagnostic check-up to determine if all parts are in working order. A car diagnostic tool will help pinpoint problem areas in your car without having to gut out your car.

Importance of immediate car repair

When experiencing any form of car trouble it is important that you immediately have your car checked. By doing so you will be able to prevent any huge damage to your car. There is a reason why the safety system in your car is installed. It is there to inform you of any problems or mechanical failures that your car is having.

It may be signaling that it is time to fill up on refrigerant for your auto AC or have your transmission checked in Tampa. Oftentimes, it can mean that you need to get auto service from a mechanic.

Car repair and maintenance is important. By following preventive maintenance measures, you are able to save time, effort and money. With the assistance of a good mechanic you will be able to have a well-maintained and properly running automotive.

Car Repair Kits – Do You Need Them?

auto363 » 19 June 2009 » In Auto Repair » No Comments

Anyone who spends time on the internet will probably notice an increasing number of websites offering all sorts of do-it-yourself mechanic kits pretending to teach how to fix your own car.

Now I have to admit that one can potentially save themselves quite a lot of money – and worries – in visits to the car mechanic, that is if these do-it-yourself mechanics kits actually work. But should you learn how to repair your own car?

Of course all of us need some form of mechanics knowledge beyond knowing how to replace a flat tire. But is it really worthwhile learning more than that?

Here are a few points you will need to bear in mind before you completely do away with your auto mechanic.

A question of Safety. Safety – yours and other road users’ – is probably the most important consideration to take into account before you buy a home auto mechanic kit. Remember that your life in directly exposed every time you board your car. Even if you feel skilled enough to entrust your life in your own hands, remember that failed brakes may not only kill you but also may take the life of a mother taking her kids to school!

Have you got the time for it? Most of us are just too busy earning a living to actually sit and learn how to fix our car. And even if you have enough time to LEARN how to fix you car, chances are you might not have enough time to actually DO it!

Technology. Gone are the days when auto mechanics was a relatively simple technical area. Today’s cars are a complex combination of mechanic and electronic. And you will probably need to learn both in order to be a competent mechanic!

What about the tools? Most of these internet kits don’t obviously come free. Some are sold as high as a few hundred dollars! But bear in mind too that mechanics requires a very specialized tooling and equipment. Unless you are ready to spend hundreds more on these, your newly-acquired knowledge might not be of any use, I am afraid.

Certification issues Most countries require auto mechanics to have some form of certification before they can fix cars. Of course this is not really an issue as long as you limit yourself to small maintenance jobs on your car. But remember that in case of a road accident, all sorts of nasty issues are likely to crop up!

My opinion My own opinion is that you’d probably be better off continuing to trust someone who has many years’ experience fixing cars. That is unless you desperately want to enrich online mechanic kits vendors.

New Car Road Test – Go for a Test Drive Before Buying a Car

auto363 » 08 June 2009 » In New Cars » No Comments

Are you planning to buy a brand new car this year? And you are already in dilemma which one to buy and which one not! Do not get confused. There are experts to guide choosing your new car. A car is worth buying if it passes the road test. So, the new car road test is a must before you actually buy it. It may happen that you are charmed by the look and features of the car that you have chosen. But the time you go for a road test you at once realize that the car is not made for you.

Where to go for a test drive:

It is wise to follow what the experts say while buying any kind of vehicle. Many of the cars for sale look like a new one. The best way to find out the truth is a test drive. A half-an hour test drive is sufficient to understand the condition of a car. Choose roads that have winding curves and rough surface. Highways are also a good option for test drives. Roads with frequent stop-and-go signals help to find out whether brakes are functioning properly or not.

What to check during test drive:

During test drive do not turn the music on as it will bar you from hearing noises made by the vehicle itself. Accelerate hard and take sharp but smooth turns. If there is problem in the car’s drive train or transmission then you will get a noisy drive. Modern diesel fueled automobiles do not make sound and give smoother ride. So, noise is an indication of problem in the vehicle. Take a couple of miles ride with and without the AC turned on to check the power drain.

Check the position of the steering wheel. See whether the seats are lighter and comfortable enough for you. Simplified dash board ensures easy operation. Use brake while driving at least 50mph to know the car’s emergency performance. If you are not driving a heavy vehicle then pressing clutch should not feel like working out at the gym. As you end your drive leave the motor running for a while and remove the oil-filler cap. Emission of white smoke is an indication of serious engine problem.

Choosing the right model:

It is not always that going for a hi-fi model will do. Your focus should be on purpose. You may have the money to buy a Ferrari or a Ford Mustang. But they are not a good choice for a traffic congested roads in a metro. Think about the condition of the roads where you are going to drive the car. If you need a car to pick your kids from school or drive down to your office every morning then a Ferrari will not do, although it has high speed and powerful engine. On the contrary, GMC trucks are heavy duty vehicles that are ideal for a family ride.

Now, you know the importance of road test and how to choose the right model. So, follow the tips to ensure the best buy. The more cars you take for test drive the easier it becomes for you to find the gem and weed out the lemons.
