Brake pad

Anti-friction material lining the plates and Brake Calipers used in disc brakes, brake pads help reduce heat and increase the life span of your vehicle’s braking elements. The friction of your vehicle’s brake pads against the brake drum or rotor is converted to stopping power. Depending on the brake pad material properties and driving habits, wear rates may vary. Brake pads must usually be replaced regularly and most are equipped with a method of alerting the driver when replacement is necessary.

Oxygen sensor

Acting in a closed loop feedback control for fuel-injected engines, Oxygen Sensors signal the amount of oxygen in the vehicle’s exhaust. This signal is used by the engine to fine-tune the mixture to the optimum level for maximum engine efficiency and longevity. In addition to enabling more efficient fuel injection, the oxygen sensor acts as an emissions control to reduce the amount of unburnt fuel (pollution in the form of air-borne hydrocarbons) and oxides of nitrogen from entering the atmosphere. Worn or failing oxygen sensors can cause excessive gasoline consumption, elevated exhaust emissions, accelerated catalytic converter damage along with engine performance problems such as surging and hesitation.

If you are going for Toyota auto parts then you are fairly going for a better deal. They are far better than foreign auto parts with greater variety of choice. You can have the importation of brands along with the accessories from Prestige Motorsport P/L and experience the difference by your own.

Toyota Tacoma Trucks–A Brief History

auto363 » 29 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

It has been over four decades since Toyota Motors started its venture in the American truck market in 1964.It was a very basic Toyota Regular Cab with a compact pick-up bed and square look. The truck, powered by a 1.9L 85Hp 4-cylinder engine, came with basic facilities and very few options. For the next two decades Toyota trucks remained unchanged with some minor tweaks.

In the 1979 model year, the Japanese car maker launched Toyota Pickup,a four-wheel drive option with an enhanced 2.2L 96Hp powertrain. These changes made Toyota trucks a huge hit in the North American market and the success was followed by a series of awards-Toughest Truck of the Year by 4×4 and Off-Road Vehicles, 4WD of the Year by Pickup and 4WD Vehicle of the Year by Off-Road.

From then on,the truck production divided in two separate lines the–4×2 and 4×4 models.By 1981,Toyota truck Xtracab models were introduced in the market with choices of diesel and gasoline engines.Changes and modifications continued to give it a more car like feel.

During the period 1988-1989,the Toyota trucks emerged as more powerful with a 3.0L V6 and the wheelbase extended from 103 inches to 122 inches. In the meantime,Toyota Pickup got a boost with turbo charged engines and Independent Front Suspension (IFS).It was the predecessor of present Toyota Tacoma.

In 1995,Toyota launched the brand new Tacoma, designed and manufactured on the American soil. The Tacoma came with two main options–the 2WD models with a 2.4L 142Hp four-cylinder powertrain and the $WD model with a 2.7L 150Hp four-cylinder engine.Standard safety features included adjustable seatbelt anchors,driver-side airbags, and improved side view mirrors.

In 2001,The Toyota Tacoma ushers in to a new model year with more sophisticated interior and aggressive exterior styling. The Toyota Double Cab was made available for the first time. The pick up truck combined the passenger comfort and roominess of a SUV with the toughness of a cargo hauler.

The much bigger 2006 Tacoma model standardized some more options with minor facelifts for the 2007 models.Slight mechanical changes were done to ensure better fuel economy and higher performance than its forerunners.

The 2008 model is a carryover from 2007 while the 2009 Toyota Tacoma has received a whole new lot of entertainment and safety features including 6-disc CD player, new steering wheel controls,Vehicle Stability Control (VSC),four-wheel Anti-lock Brakes System and an electronic Brake-Force Distribution System with Brake Assist. The revised interior design offers improved comfort level and added entertainment during drive.

The 2009 Tacoma Access Cab gets standard power windows and door locks along with redesigned rear seats for enhanced passenger comfort and convenience.Higher trim levels offer optional Bluetooth enabled Premium JBL 6-CD audio system with integrated XM satellite radio.

Finally, the 2010 Toyota Tacoma appeals to those who need a mid-size or compact pickup loaded with latest entertainment amenities and topnotch safety features in addition to fuel efficiency and hauling capabilities. The vehicle’s exterior is apparently unchanged from its last year versions. The 2010 Toyota trucks come in three cab styles-2010 Tacoma Regular Cab,Double Cab with four side doors and extended Access Cab with hinged rear doors.Equipped with the most advanced DynamicControl technology and Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) 2010 Toyota Tacoma is a hot seller in the mid-size pickup truck category.

Over 50 Fire Service Staff Now Uses Toyota Avensis Diesel Cars

auto363 » 28 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Fleet Manager John Millett said that more than 50 fire service staff has switched from being user-choosers to driving a range of Toyota Avensis diesel cars and the switching has been a smooth one.

Manufactured at Toyota’s plant in Burnaston (Derbyshire), the Avensis 2.2-liter D-4D diesels, all equipped with top of the line Toyota auto parts, are used by fire officers as well as by senior and middle managers for operational purposes. They are being ordered in saloon, hatchback and Tourer form and in T3-x, T4, T-Spirit and T180 grades.

One Avensis is designated to be used in teaching new fire officers road craft skills when driving under blue-light conditions. Meanwhile, three Yaris 1.3-liter T3-x diesels have been assigned to the brigade’s “Red Fleet” to be used on general and community liaison duties. Officers and managers also have the choice of specifying Yaris for their own use if they prefer to drive a smaller one.

Over the past year, the Toyotas have been introduced into the rush on a rolling programme. Mr. Millet said that the feedback has been very good because everyone seems very happy. He added that some comments were expected when the staff has to move from a user-chooser scheme to another, but nobody has had any complaints and most have reacted that the Avensis is a good car. Furthermore, he said that from his point of view, the cars are working out well.

The decision of the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service to shift to a single-badged fleet was influenced by the occurring again of the problem of meeting the needs of new staff who might find their predecessor’s choice of ride not suitable.

John Millet continued that they decided to have one car for all so they looked around for a 2.2-litre diesel with a good specification, one that would be large and durable enough to stand up to attending incidents, and with all the necessary safety features. They made naturally cost-effectiveness as a prime consideration in choosing.

Based at Littleover, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service gets its cars on contract hire through Lloyds TSB, Appleyards and Automotive Leasing. The Avensis cars average 15,000 miles a year and the driving-school vehicle 25,000 miles, with drivers paying a contribution for personal use. At three years, replacement cycles take place.

For more than a quarter of a century, Toyota has relied on the talents of American designers and engineers to help ensure that their vehicles meet local preferences and standards.

Toyota Trails Political Clout

auto363 » 27 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

The Toyota Motor Corp., the second largest automaker around the globe, is planning to build a plant in Mississippi. Experts in the industry say that the move of the automaker is aimed at expanding its operations in the United States at the same time increasing political influence in the territory.

As the presence increases, Toyota tunes in. The Japanese automaker is expected to use the clout to rival the Detroit’s automakers on some issues. Toyota could also use the increased Capitol Hill lobbying power to give it a boost in its competitive lead over the General Motors Corp., the Ford Motor Co. and the DaimlerChrysler AG.

“We don’t agree with them on everything,” said Josephine Cooper, the vice president of government relations for Toyota Motor North America. “But our goal is to work together because it’s usually better to be on the same page.” Cooper spearheads an in-house lobbying office of seven people in Washington. The Japanese automaker also has hired some of the city’s leading lobbying firms to aid in the realization of goals.

Toyota has built plants in Kentucky and Indiana. These plants integrate quality auto parts and accessories like the Toyota hawk brakes to its powerful lineup. The automaker is narrowing the gap with domestic car manufacturers in regard to spending on lobbying.

In 2004, Toyota spent approximately $2.4 million on lobbying. In 2005, its lobbying investment increased to $3.4 million, and last year it rose to $4.6 million. In 2006, GM spent $8.7 million and Ford spent $9.1 million to influence policy and legislation in Washington.

For the first time, the Japanese automaker also is considering the creation of a political action committee. Last year, GM’s PAC spent over $1 million and Ford’s spent over $845,000 to influence lawmakers in Washington.

One strong factor behind Toyota’s quest of greater political clout may be the possibility that the Big Three, staggered by slumping sales, will ask Congress for subsidies or a bailout, said Joan Claybrook, the president of the Public Citizen watchdog group in Washington. She also said that Toyota’s growing presence in the United States forces it to become more involved in politics. “They just realize they need to be more tuned in,” Claybrook said.

Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky plant is responsible for the assembly of the Toyota Camry sedan, including the new hybrid model, along with the Avalon sedan and Solara coupe. The Toyota Princeton, Ind. Plant, on the other hand, makes the Tundra pickup, Sienna minivan and Toyota Sequoia SUV.

For 2007, top issues for both the American and Japanese automakers include whether to raise mileage standards for cars and trucks. Another main issue is whether carbon emissions should be capped to combat global warming. On both issues, Toyota has the edge.

Toyota agrees with U.S. automakers that the administration, not Congress, should determine fuel economy standards. But the Japanese automaker has embraced President Bush’s proposal last year to change how fuel economy is determined while U.S. automakers strongly refuted it.

Toyota also is better positioned than Detroit automakers to deal with possible moves in Congress to tighten regulation of carbon dioxide emissions, with use of hybrid fuel technology in some models. “There’s a huge gap between the cleanest and dirtiest automakers,” said Don MacKenzie, the author of the Union of Concerned Scientists report. “Toyota’s ranking shows that size is no excuse for a dirty fleet.”

Toyota Grabs Its First Pole Position in Nascar

auto363 » 27 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

For the first time this season, Toyota has earned its NASCAR Nextel Cup pole position, thanks to Dave Blaney, who drove his No. 22 Caterpillar Toyota Camry and set the fastest lap time in the recent practice test that took place at the New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon.

Blaney pushed his Toyota “Car of Tomorrow” Camry equipped with Toyota Sway Bar Link to reach a maximum speed of 129.437 mph, and clocked in at 29.426 leaving other drivers behind. Blaney’s achievement is a milestone for Toyota Racing team as this is the first time that a Toyota car obtained a pole finish. Dave Blaney will put his Toyota Camry in the number 1 starting position at the upcoming Lenox Industrial Tools 300 race this coming July.

Check out what Dave Blaney said after the qualifying race.

“It feels good to get the first pole for Toyota and hopefully this is the first step in many successful days of poles and wins. We’ve been good all day and been getting a lot of speed out of the car. All of the Toyotas have been real good lately and Brian Vickers has had some good runs lately too. The Toyota side is definitely working hard and I just can’t thank everyone at Bill Davis Racing enough. Especially Tommy Baldwin, Bill Davis, Mike Brown and everybody. We’ve had a trying year with problems and DNFs. It’s been tough being out of the top-35 because it’s hard to concentrate on the races when you have to concentrate on getting into them. This is a big confidence booster for the whole team and any day where you can build confidence in your entire team and driver makes for a good day.”

The press asked Blaney if he already had the feeling that he would grab the pole, and he said:

“I watched everybody early and I saw that some of their speeds were falling off some from practice. I wasn’t sure what we could run and I knew we didn’t really change anything from practice. But in my situation I have to focus on getting into the race more than going for the pole. I can’t make a mistake and risk not getting into the race. I was a little conservative on my first lap, but when I found out that it was fast enough to get into the show — I gave that second lap a little more and I was able to put it on top of the board. It’s a tough position to be in because you have to be cautious enough to get it, but aggressive enough to get in the race. But yeah – I thought we could get the pole.”

NASCAR fans will surely watch out for the upcoming race in Loudon and see if Dave Blaney can give his Toyota team its first NASCAR victory.

South African-made Toyota Corollas Head to Europe

auto363 » 26 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

The South African subsidiary of motor company Toyota is expected to export its locally produced Toyota Corollas from Durban to Europe starting next year. This is a move set to build up the economy of KwaZulu-Natal.

The decision was taken after a meeting on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan between the provincial government and Toyota representatives.

The vice chairperson of Toyota Motor Corporation, Katsuhiro Nakagawa said that Toyota South Africa would produce Corollas specifically to be exported to Europe. The statement was made at the meeting with KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sbu Ndebele.

In his statement, Mr. Nakagawa announced that almost 50 engineers had already been sent to South Africa to help with the manufacturing of the vehicles. He said that Toyota is determined to produce more vehicles in South Africa for exportation to other countries which is vital for South Africa’s economy.

Furthermore, he said that they also wanted an increased presence in Japanese automotive parts suppliers in South Africa since the country was considered to be the gateway to the rest of the continent. According to him, they want to make their South African plant more competitive compared to Toyota plants in other countries.

He acknowledged that the training of workers would be necessary to achieve, in a bid to ensure the competitiveness of their South African plant. He uttered that if they train more workers, more automotive parts supplier companies will go to South Africa.

He also explained that they planned to put up a Toyota Training School in South Africa, which would benefit the company’s employees and create a much needed skills base for growth.

The production of the latest model of the Toyota Corolla in South Africa is well in process and will be launched in August this year.

In his speech, Mr. Nakagawa further said that they are trying hard to introduce new models of Toyota to be produced is South Africa as well.

Premier Ndebele appreciated the assurance shown by the company to South Africa, particularly to KwaZulu-Natal. He said that they appreciate the new investment of more than R4 billion at the plant at Prospecton in Durban. But he would also like to see Toyota producing other automotive components in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mr. Ndebele said that they would welcome and highly appreciate the development of an Automotive Supplier Park in the province as it is important to accelerate training of the current and future workforce.

He added that training is needed all the time for the market elsewhere.

Toyota Van Servicing

auto363 » 26 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

Toyota servicing is now much cheaper, for those in the know. Thanks to European legislation, you no longer have to be tied to high Toyota service costs, dictated by your local dealer.

In October 2003 new European legislation affecting the motor industry came into force called “Block Exemption Regulation” 14002002 (BER), and this now means that you can book your next Toyota van service online and save up to 50% on what you might pay at your local Toyota dealer.

Before the law changed it was difficult to have new vans within their warranty period serviced outside a franchised dealer. If you wanted to shop around for the best prices on Toyota van servicing, your hands were tied. The change in the law now gives every van owner the freedom to service their van away from the main dealers, and still have their warranty protected.

Thousands of Toyota van owners have now taken advantage of their new right and reduced their Toyota serving costs, whilst benefiting from the convenience of booking with national van service providers such as Service A Van.

Service A Van is a leading online van servicing network that prides itself on the quality of its Toyota servicing, their customer service and transparent pricing. Because the company is not tied to any particular van manufacturer, they are able to service any make of vehicle and compete freely in the market, on a like-for-like.

Every vehicle is rigorously serviced according to the manufacturer’s servicing schedule, using genuine recommended parts fitted by qualified technicians. This means that every Toyota van service fulfils the warranty criteria and there is no compromise on the servicing standards of a main dealer.

Companies like Service A Van, who fulfil the warranty criteria when servicing your Toyota, are able to maintain your service book, just as main dealer can – thereby protecting your warranty and helping you to maximise the resale value of your Toyota van.

Of course, booking direct with a national van servicing network has its own advantages:

• You no longer have to do all the running around. Service A Van collects your Toyota in the morning and delivers it back that afternoon, free of charge

• You pay a fixed Toyota service price, which can be up to 50% below the price at the Toyota servicing desk of your local dealer

• No additional work is vanried out without your agreement, which means no nasty surprises when it comes to paying the bill

• Trained Customer Advisers are on hand throughout the day to keep you informed of progress, and report back on problems you asked to be investigated as part of your Toyota service e.g. knocks and rattles

• Your Toyota service includes a free wash and vacuum clean

• You simply pay with your credit or debit vand and your van is delivered back to your home or work address.

Our advice for saving money on Toyota van servicing is to contact a national van servicing network, who is not tied to any one particular van manufacturer, like Service A Van.

So, before you book your next Toyota van service, why not ask your local dealer to tell you the cost of the service (plus parts, oil and any extras) and then compare it with a fixed price quote from a national servicing network, like Service A Van?

Happy motoring,

Howard.

Read Before Buying Toyota Camry Oxygen Sensor

auto363 » 24 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

n sensor

Most modern oxygen sensors have a 100,000-mile life expectancy, and when your oxygen sensor gets a little old and worn, you’ll notice a drop in fuel economy. More extreme cases of oxygen sensor malfunction can lead to drivability issues and eventually trigger other indicators of the problem such as a Check Engine light. Maintaining Your Toyota Car: Fuel Filter and Alternator

auto363 » 24 September 2009 » In Toyota » No Comments

A simple but vital component of your car that needs to checked every time you get your Toyota serviced or tuned up, is the fuel filter. The Toyota fuel filter has a very important job: to make sure that the fuel that reaches your engine does not contain any particles that could clog the engine. The Toyota alternator is another important component that charges your Toyota’s battery when the car’s running.

If there’s anything wrong with these two components, the car will not run. Without the Toyota alternator the car battery will discharge after a little while and the car will refuse to start. Similarly, if the Toyota fuel filter gets clogged the fuel will not reach the engine, and the car will refuse to run.

Luckily, these two parts are very low maintenance and if you keep your car services on schedule, you will not face any trouble. The Toyota fuel filter is a spare that needs to be replaced regularly. In fact the service guy probably replaces it every time you get your car serviced. The Toyota alternator on the other hand will go on working for years without a problem.

Although the service center charges a pretty hefty fee for it, replacing the Toyota fuel filter is not a difficult job for those who’re have some inclination towards learning car maintenance and repairs. In fact you will even find how to videos on the Internet that will show you how to replace the fuel filter yourself. Once you’ve mastered this skill, you’ll never be stranded due to a clogged fuel filter, and you’ll always know when to get your Toyota fuel filter replaced.

Maintaining the alternator unfortunately, is not so trivial. You can get to it pretty easily and also check if it’s generating a current for the battery or not, but if there’s something wrong with, it will be very difficult to repair it. Toyota alternator is not very cheap either, so if your alternator stops working, you’ll need to shell out a lot of cash.

One thing you must remember is that the Toyota alternator does not stop working very often. If you battery light on your car console is on, that means the batteries are not getting charged, but the trouble usually is not with the alternator but with the alternator belt. The alternator belt is responsible to turn the small turbine that generates the current in the Toyota alternator. Sometimes it breaks due to wear-and-tear and the current stops flowing. In this case all you need is a new alternator belt.

Usually buying the spare parts, be it a Toyota fuel filter or a Toyota alternator from the repair center is pretty expensive as those guys will sell it to you at a marked up price. You’ll get a better deal with a replacement parts stockist. So consider looking for the part on the Internet and finding out its price before you get it replaced. Ask your service guy what will be cost of just replacing the part if you got it yourself. You might be able to save a lot of money.

For more resources regarding Toyota Fuel Filter or even about Toyota Alternator, please review this page http://www.pdmautoparts.com
